Muslims Protest Non Inclusion In National Conference

Ishaq-Oloyede
Professor Ishaq Oloyede said that their grievances were addressed by president Goodluck Jonathan.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Mohamed Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Wednesday led some members of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), to President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential villa to
protest what they described as marginalisation in representation at the on-going National Conference.
After the meeting that lasted for over an hour, the Secretary General of the NSCIA, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, told reporters, that Muslims in the country were not comfortable with the composition of the membership to the dialogue.
Professor Ishaq Oloyede said: “The President has given us reasons to reassure the Muslims that they were not deliberately marginalised and has asked us to convey the feelings, fairness and genuineness of the government to the populace.
“He has assured us that if there are issues that are not as they should be, that it would be addressed,” he said.
Professor Oloyede said they were happy that they met the president to table their grievances.
The apex body for Islamic organisations in the north, the Jama’atul Nasril Islam, had accused President Jonathan of having a hidden agenda with the convocation of the National Conference.
It also said that Muslims were short-changed in the selection of delegates to the conference.
