The rate of divorce in Nigeria and the world at large, is very alarming. Sometimes I wonder if marriage is still the 'till death do us part' institution.
People have different reasons for signing up for a divorce. These reasons revolve around actions exhibited by one or both parties and are usually, linked to not marrying the right person.
Apostle Joshua Selman Nimmack, a Nigerian televangelist, a teacher of the Word of God and the Founder of Koinonia (Eternity Network International ) has revealed in one of his teachings, the kind of partner people should choose for the purpose of marriage
Below are the six mates he said one should marry:
1. MARRY YOUR SPEAKING MATE
Here, he emphasized on the importance of communication in a marriage and urged people to marry someone who they can speak to and understand very well.
2. MARRY YOUR SCHOOL MATE
"By this I mean, marry someone you can learn together and improve together" he said. Don't marry ' Mr Know all' or 'Miss Know all'. Marry your 'school' mate; someone who is ready to learn with you.
3. MARRY YOUR SPIRITUAL MATE
He emphasized on the fact that spiritual compatibility is a factor to look into while choosing a life partner. "Marriage is not just a social union, It is also a spiritual union. Marry someone who knows the same God you know", he said.
4. MARRY YOUR SPENDING MATE
"Don't marry someone who is stingy. There are so many expenses to cater for in marriage. A stingy guy in courtship won't suddenly become a generous husband in marriage" he said.
He spoke on a common habit ladies are known for when he said: "Don't marry a lady that has the financial philosophy of ' My husband's money is our money, but my money is my money'.
5. MARRY YOUR SEX MATE
Here, he encouraged youths to marry someone who they can connect to sexually because it will help them enjoy their marriage.
6. MARRY YOUR SOCIAL MATE
"Don't marry someone you won't be proud to go out with, rather marry someone you are comfortable to hang out with" he said.
In my opinion, I think this will go a long way in reducing the rate of divorce in the world because I don't see any possibility of partners getting divorced if they are compatible in the above-mentioned areas.
